An essay authored by Victor Castillo on Bernal Díaz del Castillo, the famous sixteenth-century Spanish conquistador and chronicler of the Spanish conquest of Mexico, was published by UNAM (Universidad Autónoma de México).
The booklet, titled Bernal Díaz del Castillo. Narrar la Conquista entre volcanes (Bernal Díaz del Castillo. Narrating the conquest among volcanoes), explores the controversies that surrounded the life of Díaz del Castillo as well as the contradictions present in his monumental chronicle, The True History of the Conquest of New Spain. This publication is part of the series 1521: Un atado de vidas (1521: a bundle of lives), a collection of fifteen essays written for the general public in an accessible and innovative fashion that narrates the biographies of indigenous and European men and women who took part in the Spanish conquest of Mexico around 1521.
