Podstawowe informacje

Dr. Jacek Karmowski is an assistant at the Chair of Egyptian and Middle Eastern Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, Jagiellonian University. He graduated from the Institute of Prehistory at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (currently the Faculty of Archaeology at AMU) and the interdisciplinary doctoral program "Society - Environment - Technologies" at Jagiellonian University. He obtained a doctorate in archaeology in 2021 based on his thesis "Urbanization Processes in Northern Egypt and Southern Levant in the Second Half of the Fourth Millennium BC based on Architecture Analysis". His research interests include the beginnings of urbanization in Egypt and the Near East, the Early Bronze Age in the Near East (especially in the Southern Levant), and the use of computer methods in archaeology such as GIS systems and photogrammetry. He is also interested in the potential of using 3D environment in archaeology, including architectural reconstructions, landscape, visualization of research results and spatial analyses supported by "visual simulation" which allows for the creation of landscape and visibility reproductions in various weather and lighting conditions. He has experience in archaeological fieldwork in countries such as Poland, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Germany. Participant of the Mare Nostrum Lab Flagship Project (as a member of the Steering Committee and a member of the Research Group for Remote Sensing).
