Prof. Dr. Paweł Valde-Nowak was born in Cracow (Poland),  24 May 1954. He received in 1979 an M.A. in archaeology from Jagiellonian University in Cracow and Ph.D. in Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw in 1986. After habilitation in 1996 in Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, he became Professor title from the President of Poland in 2003.

In the years 2003-2005  he worked  as the Professor of archaeology in the University of Gdańsk, in the years 2010-2011 as the Professor of archaeology in the University of Cologne, Germany, in the years 2020-2021 as the Professor of archaeology in the University of Hradec Králové, Czech Republic. Actually he is Professor of Stone Age Archaeology in the Jagiellonian University of Cracow and up to 2015 he was a senior scientist in the Polish Academy of Sciences, Cracow.

As scientist, he carried out investigations in various parts of Middle Europe, in the first line in the mid-mountainous zone of Poland, Slovakia and Germany. He has wide experience in the questions of transhumance and seasonal settlements forms of Neolithic penetrations of the mountainous areas, as well as interactions of nature-human occupation in the less favourable areas for agriculture.

Prof. Valde-Nowak is a Fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Bonn and Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz (both Germany) and quest-teacher of archaeology in the University of Tübingen (1999-2000) as well as in Erlangen-Nürnberg University (1992). He is author of over 300 papers, reports and author or editor of 8 books. The main topics in that publications are: Palaeolithic archaeology, mountainous archaeology, cave settlement, identification of the role of palynology in the studies of Neolithic time and flint working techniques.

1985-1995, 2007-2017 - interdyscyplinarne badania wykopaliskowe sekwencji 11 poziomów kulturowych z paleolitu środkowego i górnego Jaskini w »Obłazowej, w tym odkrycie najstarszych na ziemiach polskich szczątków kostnych człowieka anatomicznie współczesnego, najstarszego na świecie bumerangu i śladów praktyk rytualnych (w-wa VIII), obozowiska kultury szeleckiej, oryniackiej oraz trzech różnych wariantów kultury mustierskiej;1985-1986, 2012, 2014 - badania wykopaliskowe obozowiska kultury Federmesser w Nowej Białej, pow. Nowy Targ; 1993-1994 - badania powierzchniowe w Lesie Bawarskim; 1995-1998 - polsko-słowacki "Projekt Spiski", 1992 - osada kultury ceramiki sznurowej Lubiša-Merava, Słowacja, 1995 - osada kultury ceramiki sznurowej Brestov-Delnia, Słowacja, 1999-2000 - badania powierzchniowe w Zachodnim Szwarcwaldzie; 1999-2000 - badania wykopaliskowe obiektu mieszkalnego kultury magdaleńskiej w Hłomczy nad Sanem; 2000-2006, 2010 - badania wykopaliskowe wielokulturowej osady neolitycznej w Łoniowej na Pogórzu Wiśnickim w Karpatach, których jednym z rezultatów jest odkrycie zachowanego w całości długiego (41,5 m) domu ludności kultury ceramiki wstęgowej rytej oraz grobu wewnątrz tego założenia; 2007-2018 – badania wykopaliskowe w Jaskini Ciemnej w Ojcowie; 2016-2017 – badania obozowiska mezolitycznego w Sułkowicach „Nad Goscibią” w Beskidzie Średnim.
